Robert Oszust, Jr. Obituary

Robert (“Bob”) Ray Oszust, Jr., 74, of Adena, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024, at Valley Hospice Liza's Place Care Center South in Wheeling, West Virginia, surrounded by family.  Bob was born on November 16, 1950, in Wheeling, West Virginia, to the late Robert Oszust, Sr. and Betty Oszust (Herron) of Harrisville.  He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Oszust, Sr.  Bob is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Pamela (Yanok) Oszust; mother Betty Oszust; daughter Robin (Brian) Amicon of Columbus, Ohio; son Cory (Elisha) of McMechen, West Virginia; and grandchildren Adrienne Oszust and Scarlett Amicon.  Also surviving is his brother Charles (Debi) Oszust; sister Tammy (Rick) DuJardin; and brother Jason Oszust.  Bob graduated from Cadiz High School in 1968 and married Pam on March 26, 1971.  He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and dearly loved and was immensely proud of his family.  He was originally Methodist by faith, and then Presbyterian as a member of the Harrisville Covenant Presbyterian Church in Harrisville, Ohio.  Bob worked as a coal miner for 36 years at Nelms #1 mine, Nelms #2 mine, Y & O coal mine, and Tusky coal mine, before retiring in 2004 after a mine accident.  He was in a tragic motorcycle accident in 1974 that resulted in the loss of his use of his left arm.  Despite this, Bob never complained, returned to work, and learned to do everything with just one arm.  He always wanted to prove that he could do, or outdo, anything that anyone else could.  Despite all his setbacks in life, Bob was a fighter with steadfast perseverance.  He even conquered stage 4 metastatic melanoma with the help of his care team at the James Cancer Hospital (OSU) in Columbus.  His family often joked that he had “9 lives” and seemed invincible.  He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed watching and attending NASCAR and dirt track races, riding his 4-wheeler in the country, and taking road trips with his wife in his beloved little red Corvette.  Bob was also a keen gardener and loved to plant flowers and meticulously manicure his lawn, as well as watch political news stations and discuss politics.  He will be deeply missed. Friends will be received Thursday 5 to 8 p.m. December 19, 2024, at Borkoski Funeral Home, 60 South Bridge Street, Adena, and on Friday December 20, 2024, from 10 until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Harrisville with Rev. Barry Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Olive Branch Cemetery followed by a light luncheon in the church basement.  Memorial contributions can be made in his honor to Valley Hospice, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of the donor’s choice.  Offer online condolences at www.borkoskifuneral.com.
