Lila E. (Dewalt) Bates

Lila E. Bates, age 83, passed away October 30, 2025, at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Canton.

She was born September 16, 1942, in Cadiz, Ohio, to parents John and Retta (Moore) Dewalt. Lila graduated from Cadiz High School and went on to work for Harrison Community Hospital for several decades, mostly working as the secretary in Dr. Modi’s office.

She was a fantastic cook and an avid reader. Lila looked forward to spending time with her family. She also enjoyed crocheting.

Lila is survived by her children Carrie Studer and Greg (Deb) Bates, her grandchildren: Jen, Logan, Tyler, and Melody, her three great-grandchildren, and her great-great-grandson, as well as her brother Lou Dewalt.

Lila was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Keith Bates, her sons Dirk and Doug Bates, her daughter Faylene Bates, and her granddaughter Ashley.

Her wishes for cremation are being honored, and she will be laid to rest in Moorefield Methodist Episcopal Cemetery. Condolences and fond memories may be shared at www.borkoskifuneral.com
