John Orban Obituary

John Vincent Orban, 82, of Adena and Cadiz High School, fondly known as 'Butchie', retired Naval Officer, lifetime collector, and global expert of fine art and antiques passed peacefully on Jan 8 in the love of his family. He faithfully and honorably upheld 30 years of military service, receiving the Good Conduct Award for Faithful, Zealous, and Obedient Naval Service. His global tours of duty took him from Classified Pentagon clearance to special defense postings in Ireland, Iceland deterring Russian submarines, to supporting Allied Forces under NATO Command in Naples Italy, to active sea duty on the USS La Salle, and finally to Scotland where he honorably retired from service; only to continue to protect and serve for a further 10 years as a Naval Reserve. He is recognized and thanked for his dutiful protection and shall be interred in Arlington Military Cemetery with honor in attendance.
John was born in Martins Ferry on July 25, 1941, the son of the late Agnes (Csehi) and John Orban, brother of the late Marcella ‘Marcie’ Ebbert.
John was also an acclaimed expert and collector of fine antiques, particularly prestigious clocks and watches, and famous automatons. His extensive knowledge and opinion were renowned and well respected throughout the antique world and his antique business flourished nationally as well as globally.
John raised a beautiful family of 5 children: Sharon, Johnny, Dianne, Stephen, and Jennifer, and 9 loving grandchildren: Charlotte, Emily, Henry, George Kerr; Danelle, David, and Emma Kirk, Stephen Callum Jr, and his little sweetheart Anna Orban. He had two beautiful marriages to Fiona Kerr of Ireland from 1963-1986 and Myra Edwards of Scotland from 1997-2013. He loved us all very deeply with kindness and generosity. We are grateful for the gift of a loving husband, Dad, and Grandpa. He is sadly missed and lives on in our hearts. We take comfort Dad you rest within the sacred heart of our Lord Jesus Christ.
