James L. Wise

James Linley Wise, age 81 of Cadiz, formerly of Lafferty, passed away July 30, 2025.

He was born November 14, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio, to parents Joseph and Velma Pearl (Street) Wise. Jim graduated from Union Local High School in 1961 and attended Ohio University, until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, a proud veteran of the Vietnam War.  

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also took the lead in the Jim Wise and the Blue Denim Band, playing country and oldies rock and roll across the Ohio Valley.

Jim volunteered as Scout Master for Bethesda Troop #73 for many years. He retired as an inspector for Vaughn, Coast, and Vaughn Inc. in St. Clairsville.

Jim is survived by his sons: James S. (Julia) Wise and Shane Wise, his stepson Roger (Mel) Herbert, his 10 grandchildren, his 8 great-grandchildren, and his sister Maryellen “Sissy” Schleappi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Shannon Graves, and his sister Jacqueline Wise.
