James “Handlebars” Kugler Sr., 73, of New Athens, Ohio, died Friday Nov. 30, 2007 with his family at his side, at Park Health Center, St. Clairsville, Ohio.
He was born in Adena, Ohio on April 6, 1934, a son of the late Leo and Edith Thompson Kugler.
James was a member of the Flushing American Legion Post 366; a U.S. Air Force Veteran; a retired employee of Consol Coal Co.; a self employed truck driver; an avid NASCAR fan and a former driver of dirt stock cars #57.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Grace Lee Dehnart Kugler in 2001; three brothers: John, Randy and Bobby Kugler; two sisters: Mary Raber and Dora Louise Kugler.
James is survived by two sons: Bob Kugler (Kendra) of New Athens, Jimmy Kugler Jr. of Holloway, Ohio; two daughters: Brenda Maroni (Tony) of New Athens, Sharon Barto (Mike) of Flushing, Ohio; four sisters: Jane Valesko of Cadiz, Luella Harris of Flushing, Shirley Schoolcraft of Kilgore, Ohio and Violet Palmer “Snooky” of Toronto, Ohio; four grandchildren: Mikey and Ashley Barto, Tony Maroni Jr., James Kugler; a great-grandson, Andrew Barto; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends were received Monday from 3 – 9 p.m. at the Borkoski Funeral Home, 555 East Market Street, Cadiz, Ohio where services were held Tuesday December 4, 2007 at 12 noon, with Rev. Pete Tuchek officiating. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery, Hopedale, Ohio, where military services were conducted by the Flushing American Legion Post 366.
