Donna M (Merrelli) Anderson

Donna M. Anderson, 80, of Adena, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Valley Hospice Liza’s Place surrounded by family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion to her family and friends.

Donna was born on October 12, 1945, the daughter of the late Joseph and Amelia Merrelli. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles “Eddie” Retzer; and her brother, James Merrelli.

A lifelong Catholic, Donna was deeply committed to her faith and to St. Casimir Church in Adena, Ohio, where she was a cantor and sang in the choir. After 30+ years of employment with phone companies, she retired as a Consultant with Verizon Landline. She was an exceptional cook and baker and no one ever left her home hungry. Her warmth, generosity, and care for others were evident in every meal she prepared and every gathering she hosted.

Donna is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Gerald “Jerry” Anderson; brother Basil (Betty) Merrelli, nephew Christopher; son Patrick Retzer; daughter Melanie (Denis) Colwell; grandchildren Justin (Angel) Retzer, Emily Retzer, and Kathryn Colwell (for whom Donna was Mimi); and two great-grandchildren, whom she considered among the greatest joys of her life.

Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held at Borkoski Funeral Home in Adena, Ohio, on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 3 PM to 7 PM. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at St. Casimir Church in Adena, Ohio on Saturday, May 30,2026, at 11 AM with visitation at the church from 10 AM to 11 AM. Inurnment will follow at the Olive Branch Cemetery.
