Dan Lukich

March 6, 1918 ~ April 9, 2007 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Dan Lukich, 89, of Cadiz, Ohio, formerly of Adena, Ohio died April 9, 2007.
Dan was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 6, 1918, a son of Louis and Maria Galishin Lukich.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Myrtle Marie, on September 15, 2004. They were married on September 22, 1945.
Dan is survived by his son, Daniel W. Lukich, and daughter-in-law Judy McClain Lukich of Cleveland, Ohio; and their four children Danielle of Washington D.C., Lincoln of Virginia Beach, VA., Andrew of Pensacola, Fla., and Alex of Cleveland; sisters-in-law: Rose Lukich of Morristown, Ohio and Millie Lukich Stewart of Clermont, Fla., and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lukich was a resident of Adena since 1946 and then of Carriage Inn, Cadiz for the past three years.  He and his family were members of Adena Methodist Church.  He worked for the Y & O Coal Company and was in the coal business for 42 years.  Dan discovered a love of golf, while in his late forties, and it became his leisure time passion to be enjoyed with family and friends.
A devoted family man, Dan watched his son, Daniel graduate from Adena High School in 1964 and then go on to gain degrees from Mount Union, Miami University, Eastern Michigan University and then his Ph.D. from Miami University.  He has been a Superintendent of School for 22 years and Orange City Schools Superintendent for the past 10.  He and his wife of 34 years, Judy, have four children who felt the love and encouragement of their grandpa.  The first three graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) with distinction, and the fourth child has also been offered an appointment to Annapolis.  Granddaughter Danielle, a recipient of 3 Bronze Stars as a Naval Intelligence Officer, will be serving in the White House Situation Room.  The second graduated, Lincoln, who helped to rescue Americans out of Beirut in 2006, from onboard the USS Nashville, is moving into Navy Special Warfare (SEAL) Supply community.  Andrew, the third graduate, was admitted into Navy Pilot Training, and will soon be moving to Texas for advanced flight instruction.  Alex will be a USNA Foundation scholar this year with plans to be a Marine Intelligence Officer upon graduation from USNA.  The family acknowledges a big debt of gratitude to the generosity of love of Dan senior.
Friends were received Saturday April 14, 2007 at the Borkoski Funeral Home, 555 E. Market St., Cadiz, Ohio from 12:00 noon until the time of services at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Richard Hasley officiating.  Interment followed at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.
