Brenda Sue Gonyea, age 61 of Cadiz, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, at Liza’s Place in Wheeling, West Virginia, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born July 17, 1964, in Milford, Massachusetts, to parents Joseph D. Gonyea and Suzanne G. Finfgeld. Brenda was a beacon of love, resilience, and unwavering support.
Brenda dedicated her life in the service industry, but was most passionate at her current workplace, the Apostolate for Family Consecration, where she led her team with spunk and spirit. She loved AFC along with all of the staff and guests. Her family expresses great gratitude to AFC for all the love and support toward Brenda over the years.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend. Brenda was also a talented artist. Her paintings are displayed in several different states. She could paint anything, but mostly enjoyed painting nature scenes with trees, rivers, and mountains. Her true passion showed through every piece that she created.
Brenda will be deeply missed by her children: Brittney S. (D. Matthew) George and Justin T. (Penny Broyles) Madden, her adored grandchildren: Bella Kay and Thomas Jackson George, her mother Suzanne G. Finfgeld, her siblings: Joseph David, Matthew Lyn, Christina Marie (Hellner) and Diana Jo, along with a wide circle of friends and co-workers who became her family. She was preceded in death by her father Joseph Gonyea, her step-father Frederick T. Finfgeld, and her brother Timothy Jon Gonyea.
Her legacy of strength and optimism lives on in all who knew her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Kevin Barrett on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the AFC St. John Vianney Chapel, 3375 County Rd 36, Bloomingdale, OH 43910. A time of fellowship and light luncheon will follow.
