Obituary

George William Brokaw Jr., age 81, of Adena, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving Wife and family on Tuesday April 29, 2025.

George was born on December 17, 1943, to the late George and Wilda Brokaw and graduated from Adena High School. After graduation, Bill was recruited by the FBI to serve in Washington D.C. as a photo lab specialist. In 1964 Bill was drafted to serve in the United States Army. He was a fierce patriot and dedicated member of the Adena American Legion Post 525 where he served in various positions over the years. Bill served as an Ohio State Highway Patrolman after his discharge from the Army. Entering the coal mines, Bill had met and married Christine, the love of his life. Bill retired after 30 years from the coal mines to enjoy life with his family.

Bill had many talents and hobbies. He was a history buff, avid gardener, Native American arrowhead collector, and an Ohio State Buckeyes fan. Any time spent with his wife Christine, children and grandchildren was his joy.

Bill will be missed by his wife Christine who survives along with his 6 loving children: Tony Urdiales (Karen), Lauren Brokaw, George (Rachel) Brokaw, Joe (Crystal) Brokaw, Marla (Phil) Bechtel and Steven Brokaw, 9 grandchildren: Kristen and Karmen Urdiales, Briana Brokaw, Elaina and Georgie Brokaw, Stevie Brokaw, Mylan Czarnecki, Knox Brokaw and Gunner Brown, 3 great-grandchildren: Royce and Rome Hernandez and Daxon McGary. Bill is also survived by his 3 dear sisters Georgia (Bill) Veronesi, Judy (Bill) Beuth and Janice (Don) Bernosky, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his granddaughter Joey Rose, and numerous family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Borkoski Funeral Home in Adena. Friends and family will also be received Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM with funeral services officiated by Pastor Barry Hall at 11:00 AM at the Harrisville Covenant Presbyterian Church. Interment with military honors will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
