James “Jim” Horton Jr., 61, of Adena, Ohio, passed Wednesday September 4, 2019 at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.
He was born July 15, 1958, a son of Mary Anne Moreland Kahrer and the stepson of Janet Horton and the late James L. Horton Sr.
Jim is married to Karen Lou Sharpe of Wheeling and they have three sons: Matthew Horton (Jane Ann Tennyson), Frank Horton (Kaitlin McGuire) and Jon “Moe” Horton (Shelby Bartrug); Five sisters: Peggy (Duane) Appel, April (Jay) Coventry, Patti Pruitt, Liz (Mike) Hageter, Jennifer (Alan) Smith; many nieces and nephews and granddaughters: Emma and Campbell.
Jim has been a dedicated Paramedic and Firefighter serving for 42 years. It all started in 1976 by taking an emergency care class at Buckeye West High School taught by Francis Sebring. After graduation Jim joined the Adena Volunteer Fire Company. He has been a member of the fire company for29 years. Jim has held an officer position for most of the years and has been the Fire Chief for a total of eight years.
Friends will be received Saturday 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday 2 to 8 p.m. at the Short Creek Joint Fire District, 270 East Main Street, (former Adena Fire Hall) Adena, Ohio 43901, where Adena Lions Club and Firefighter services will begin at 6:00 Sunday. Funeral services will be held Monday September 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Msgr. John Kolesar officiating. Interment will be private.
