Abbie Rose Shumaker Amos, October 10, 1925 – November 7, 2012. After a courageous battle, Abbie passed away peacefully at The University of Pittsburgh Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Abbie was born and raised in Scio, Ohio, graduated from Scio High School, attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated from the University of Steubenville in Elementary Education. A Master’s in Education from the University of Dayton completed her educational journey. She was an exemplary, honored and retired elementary teacher who dedicated her life to encouraging young children to read and excel.
Abbie was one of two children born to the late Edward David Shumaker, D.D.S. and his wife Emily Shumaker. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert W. Amos of Scio, OH and son Edward S. Amos (Carol), D.D.S. of Upper Arlington, OH. Abbie will forever be remembered by her devoted son Marsh Amos of Scio, OH; loving daughter Abbie Ann Amos of Upper Arlington OH; loving son R. Clark (Carol) Amos of Ladue, MO; loving brother E. D. Shumaker, Jr. of Scio, OH and grandchildren Russell (Jenny) Golowin and Bradley Golowin of Upper Arlington, OH; Ashley (John) Clennan of Hinsdale, IL, Preston (Mayo) Amos of St. Louis, MO; Matt (Lauren) Amos of Cincinnati, OH. and Elliott Amos of Columbus, OH. along with eight great-grandchildren and countless other friends and family.
Abbie touched the lives of so many people with her genuine smile, her passion for inspiring young children and her willingness to dedicate her life to teaching. She loved Scio and enjoyed spending her entire life raising her family at Abbieville Farm and especially loved all her cats and dogs. She treasured fond memories of her friends - her trips to Hilton Head, making pies for the Scio Street Fair and spending time with her Altrurian Club members. She was a cherished member of the Scio community and will be missed by many.
Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Saturday, November 10 from 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm at the Scio Presbyterian Church, Eastport St, Scio, OH 43988.
